A once-in-a-lifetime journey through the mountains of Nepal, visiting local villages and viewing majestic Mount Everest

It’s always peak season at the Everest base camp, where views of the epic mountains – including two of the world’s tallest four – never go out of style. See these mammoth mounts for yourself, up close and personal, on an unforgettable 13-night expedition with Global Adventure Trekking. Arriving at Kathmandu, you’ll fly into Lukla and begin a once-in-a-lifetime journey on foot that totals 39 miles. Each day will bring breathtaking, jaw-dropping panoramas, including many of Lhotse and, of course, many of Everest itself.

The scenery – which you’ll also behold from the round-trip Lukla flights – won’t be the only thing to look forward to. You’ll also discover the Trans-Himalayan trade, in Khumjung and Namche Bazaar villages, and the Tyangboche Monastery. And you'll have plenty of opportunities to rest up in between trekking and sightseeing: You'll spend two nights at a hotel and the 11 others at a charming teahouse, with two full days set aside for acclimatization to the altitude – so you can experience the peaks in peak condition.

Itinerary

Day 1: Having arrived in Kathmandu, you’ll be greeted by a member of the Global Adventure Trekking team, before relocating to your first hotel.

Day 2: Fly to Lukla, where you’ll trek through the Tamang and Sherpa village, cross the suspension bridge over Thade Koshi river, and walk through the Dudh Koshi-area pine forest, en route to Phakding.

Day 3: Head north up the Sherpa settlement in Dudh Kosi valley. Pick up your permit and TIMS (Trekker Information Management System), and enter Everest National Park, following the forested valley to a mountain lookout. Trek among alpine trees and rhododendron to the Namche.

Day 4: Spend the day acclimatizing yourself to the altitude so that you’ll be in top form for tomorrow’s trekking.

Day 5: Continue to Sanasa and down into Phunki Tanga, where Buddhism was introduced to the Khumbu Valley, and back up to Tyangboche’s pine forest.

Day 6: Gape at the magnificent views of Everest, Amadablam, Thanserku and Tyangboche monastery in the Khumbu Valley. Attend a puja ceremony, then proceed to a steel bridge, up to Somare, and over a wooden bridge to Dingbouch.

Day 7: Acclimatize yourself once more today in the Chhukung Valley area (located at an altitude of roughly 15,500 ft). View Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam and more.

Day 8: From a tea shop at Duglha, climb upward to a memorial for the Sherpa who perished in a 1970 avalanche. From here, take the relatively easy walk to Lobuche.

Day 9: Trek along the Khumbu Valley, a path that gets steeper and rougher as it crosses several moraines and approaches Mt. Pumori, Lotse and Neuptse. Spend the afternoon exploring the Everest base camp, before returning to Gorekshep.

Day 10: After a steep ascent, you’ll be rewarded with the magnificent, unforgettable scenery of Kalapathar, from which the entire mountain range can be seen. Return to Gorekshep, and then trek back down to Phereche.

Day 11: Continue ogling at the Himalayas, visit a Sherpa village and monastery en route to Namche Bazaar, and possibly pass by the Trans-Himalayan Market.

Day 12: The terrain looks different on the way down, and you’ll have time to visit another Sherpa village on today’s six-hour trek.

Day 13: Having returned to Lukla, head to the airport and fly to Kathmandu. Dine tonight at a Nepali restaurant.

Day 14: Return to Kathmandu for your final departure.
